BlackPulse Timer ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is a free workout timer application developed by BlackPulse. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use it.

The Short Version

BlackPulse Timer is designed with privacy at its core. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers. Your workout data stays entirely on your device.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Personal Data

We do not collect any personal data. The App does not require account creation, login, email, name, or any identifying information to function.

1.2 Workout Data

All workout-related data (timer settings, interval presets, workout templates, session history, and user preferences) is stored locally on your device only using SQLite. This data is never transmitted to us or any third party.

1.3 Device Permissions

The App may request the following device permissions:

Location (Partners & Gym Finder)

  • Purpose: To find nearby gyms and coaches when you use the Partners feature.
  • When used: Only when you actively open the Partners screen and allow location access. Location is never accessed in the background.
  • Data handling: Your location is used in real-time to display nearby partners and is not stored, logged, or transmitted to our servers.
  • Optional: You can use the App fully without granting location permission. You can still browse partners by selecting a city manually.

Camera (QR Workout Import)

  • Purpose: To scan QR codes for importing shared workouts from other users.
  • When used: Only when you actively open the QR scanner in the Import screen. The camera is never activated in the background.
  • Data handling: Camera data is processed locally in real-time to decode QR codes. No images or video are stored, recorded, or transmitted.
  • Optional: You can import workouts by pasting a share code instead. Camera is not required.

Audio & Haptics

  • Purpose: To provide sound cues and haptic feedback during work/rest transitions in interval workouts.
  • Background audio: Audio may continue playing when the screen is locked to ensure you hear interval cues during active workouts.
  • Data handling: These are output-only features. No data is collected or transmitted.

Wake Lock (Always-On Display)

  • Purpose: To keep the screen active during workouts so the timer remains visible.
  • Data handling: This is a system-level display setting. No data is collected or transmitted.

2. How We Use Information

Since we do not collect personal data, there is no data to "use." All App functionality operates locally on your device. Specifically:

  • Workout configurations and presets are saved to your device's local database for convenience.
  • User preferences (sounds, language, mode) persist locally between sessions.
  • Session history and workout data remain on your device and are accessible only to you.
  • Shared workouts (via QR code or share code) are encoded locally and decoded by the recipient — no server is involved.

3. Third-Party Services

3.1 App Store Platforms

The App is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. These platforms may collect usage analytics (such as download counts and crash reports) independently of the App. We do not have access to your individual data through these platforms. Please refer to the respective platform's privacy policy for details.

3.2 No Analytics, No Ads

The App does not include any analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, crash reporting tools, or tracking pixels. We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Facebook SDK, or any similar services within the App.

4. Data Storage & Security

All data is stored locally on your device using SQLite (via expo-sqlite). Data security is managed by your device's operating system security features, including:

  • Device encryption (when enabled)
  • App sandboxing
  • Biometric/PIN lock on the device level

Since no data is transmitted over the internet, there is no risk of server-side data breaches related to the App.

5. Data Retention

All locally stored data persists on your device until you:

  • Clear the App's data through your device settings
  • Uninstall the App
  • Manually delete workouts or reset settings within the App

We have no ability to access, retain, or delete your data since it never leaves your device.

6. Partner Registration & Website Services

In a future update (planned for v1.2), the App and its companion website may offer the following additional services:

  • Partner Registration: Gyms and coaches may register as partners through the website. Registration will require business contact information (name, address, phone, email, social media links) which will be displayed publicly in the App's partner directory.
  • Workout Creation: Partners may create and share workout packs via the website. These workout packs will be synced to the App for users to discover and add.
  • Data Sync: The website will collect partner-submitted information and make it available within the App. Only publicly shared business information will be transmitted — no user personal data will be involved.

When these features are introduced, this Privacy Policy will be updated to reflect the specific data handling practices. Personal user data (workout history, preferences) will continue to remain local to each user's device.

7. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Since the App collects no personal data at all, it is inherently compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations.

The App is a general-purpose fitness timer and is not specifically directed at children. Parental discretion is advised for use by minors.

8. International Users

Since all data processing occurs locally on your device and no data is transmitted to external servers, there are no cross-border data transfers. The App can be used in compliance with GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), LGPD (Brazil), and other regional privacy regulations.

9. Your Rights

Because we do not collect or store any personal data, traditional data rights (access, rectification, deletion, portability) are automatically fulfilled — you have full control over all your data on your device at all times.

You can:

  • Access your data by opening the App
  • Delete your data by clearing App data or uninstalling
  • Control permissions (location, camera) through your device settings at any time
  • Revoke any permission without affecting the core timer functionality

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
